Sample Google Earth Screen

Part 1: Questions 1-5 To answer questions 1-5, type the following key words into the “search bar.” Provide the geographic coordinates for each place. Format your answer as you see in the example and be sure to include the direction, not just the numbers! (Hint… you can see the coordinates in the bottom right hand corner of the Google Earth interface.) Also, remember to take the data readings with your cursor directly over the point in questions!!! Example: Site: Imperial Valley College, Coordinates: 32 degrees 49 minutes 41.14 seconds North, 115 degrees 30 minutes 15.21 seconds West (32 49 41.14 N, 115 30 15.21 W)

Part 2: Questions 6-10 To answer questions 6-10, ender the given coordinates, in the format XX XX XX N, XX XX XX W, or with other directions to locate the following sites (Hint… make sure you have the layers turned on in Google Earth, this will give you site info): Example: Coordinates: 19 18 10 N, 99 9 2 W Site: Azteca Stadium, Mexico City

Part 3: Questions 11-15 To answer questions 6-10, you’ll need to use the elevation readings (in feet), also given in the bottom right hand corner of the interface. List the elevations for the following sites or coordinates. Example: Imperial Valley College: -60

Part 4: Questions 16-20 For questions 16-20, you will need to use the ruler tool, the icon that looks like a yard stick to the right of the search menu. Measure distances between points (in miles) by clicking on our starting point and then on your ending point. You will also need to find longitudinal and latitudinal differences between sites, how many degrees farther North, West, etc., one site is from another. Example: the physical distance between Imperial Valley College and the Salton Sea is 22.11 miles (measured with ruler function). The longitudinal distance between IVC and the Salton Sea is approximately 0 degrees, 56 minutes, 7 seconds (measured by subtracting IVC’s N coordinate from the Salton Sea’s N coordinate)
